The Empowerment Project

to help you take action on what you really care about

The empowerment project is a facilitated six week training intensive designed to help you and your group find your unique empowerment project

Do you feel anguished about the state of the world? Would you love to bring change in the world but feel powerless to know how to act? Taking action to bring about change in the world is fulfilling, even exhilarating, and brings great meaning and restoration to our lives. Yet in an age of information overload, two obstacles to participation in social change remain: widespread powerlessness and isolation.

This is where the Empowerment Project steps in. We explore the fundamentals of nonviolent social change frameworks, power models, radical compassion and tools for change through facilitated group conversation and inquiry, participatory learning, story sharing, personal reflection and writing for change. We will explore questions: What do I really care about? What is the one thing that I would like to do to help change the world? You then find your unique empowerment project which might be a solo action or you might pair up or it might be you take action as a group.

All you need to get started is to gather a group of 6-8 friends or colleagues, or come solo, and then the Empowerment Project comes to you, in a location that suits you, usually in a participant’s home or at One Heart in Abbotsford. Over the six weeks you learn ways to get started on your project, with the ongoing support of the other participants. There is no expectation of when your project will be completed - the six week intensive gives you the support and tools simply to get started.

Whether we act within the realm of the family, workplace, community or globe, our actions can help create a better world for all beings. What is your love song to the world?
