One Heart Community Choir

The One Heart community choir explores both sacred songs and social change songs, to sing both the beauty of this world and for change in these troubled times. We sings songs from around the world, including popular, folk, spiritual and political empowerment songs. We sing to express our care for the world, for empowerment and resilience, to enjoy community, for fun and to give voice to what it is to be a human in these times.

Bronwyn Calcutt is the choir director. Bronwyn is a highly experienced singer, songwriter, workshop facilitator and choral director of Shaking the Tree and Expressive Women in Melbourne. She has many years experience in singing the songs of the world’s spiritual traditions. She finds inspiration in both the gypsy tradition of Europe, and the meditative practices of Buddhism of which she has been a lifelong student. Throughout her long history in theatre, music and community arts, Bronwyn has maintained a deep commitment to issues of social justice and freedom, and a belief in the ability of arts practice to foster and strengthen values of personal empowerment, compassion and understanding across social and cultural boundaries. ‘Giving voice’ is at the heart of her work, both as a singer and facilitator.

No prior experience is needed, rusty voices are welcome to join our friendly and supportive circle. This choir is for adults only.
