Poem: Deeper Rhythm

Deeper Rhythm

It is morning circle

      at my son’s kindy

and the kids sit with eyes

                 squeezed shut.

The teacher says:

     I breathe in love

     I breathe out love.

Nighttime now,

  curled up to sleep

with my boy,

foreheads touching.

I breathe in love

I breathe out love.

His breath:

      warm straw,

   sheets off the line

         filled with sun,

toast,

the scent of the wind.

Faint echoes

               of the day’s adventures

        drift in the dark

as our minds

           unravel into rest,

into a deeper rhythm.

I breathe in –

I breathe out –

Love.
